Hair Professional Apprenticeship - England

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications required, however you must show that you have the drive, passion and enthusiasm for the hair industry.

Length of programme

  • 24 months

Qualifications will include

  • Hair Professional
  • Functional skills English and Maths

Hair Professional On Programme Mandatory Units

  • Consultation
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks (level 3 elements within this unit)
  • Style and finish hair using a range of technique’s to create a variety of looks (level 3 elements within this unit)
  • Colour and Lighten hair using a range of technique’s (level 3 elements within this unit)

Optional Units (one must be achieved)

  • Perming Hair
  • Hair relaxing treatments and techniques
  • Hair extension services

NEW End Point Assessment

End point assessment will take place once the above mandatory and optional units have been achieved and certificated.

What will the End Point Assessment be?

The end Point assessment is the last unit that you MUST complete to gain the Hair professional qualification.

You will need to complete a range of services covering the mandatory units (above) on a minimum of 3 clients over six hours (holistic assessment). I.e. a trade test to ensure you are salon floor ready. During the six hours you will also be orally questioned to ensure you hold the knowledge.

This will be independently assessed by our awarding body City and Guilds.

Functional skills

Functional skills are English and Maths qualifications. You are require to gain a level 1 and work towards a level 2. You must also complete the minimum level before completing your End Point Assessment.

Support will be given to guide you through your functional skills.

English

  • Speaking and listening observation
  • Reading test (online or paper)
  • Writing (online or paper)

Maths

  • 1 test (online or paper)

 

 

Hair Professional Barbering Apprenticeship - England

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications required, however you must show that you have the drive, passion and enthusiasm for the hair industry.

Length of Programme

  • 24 months minimum

Qualifications will include

  • Hair Professional Barbering
  • Functional skills English and Maths

Hair Professional On Programme Mandatory Units (no optional within this route)

  • Consultation
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Cut hair using barbering techniques to create a variety of looks (level 3 elements within this unit)
  • Style and finish Men’s hair
  • Cut facial hair into shape (elements of level 3 within this unit)
  • Shaving services (elements of level 3 within this unit)

 

NEW End Point Assessment

End point assessment will take place once the above mandatory and optional units have been achieved and certificated.

What will the End Point Assessment be?

Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Techniques & Management Practices in Hairdressing (Wales Only)

Overview

The level 4 Diploma is designed for learners who work in or wish to pursue a higher apprenticeship and a career in Hairdressing. The level 4 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing provides the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as an advanced Hairdresser in two optional routes.

1) Senior Practitioner and Stylist

2) Salon Manager/ Director

Entry Requirements

  • Learners must have one of the following qualifications:
  • Level 3 S/NVQ in Hairdressing or Equivalent
  • Level 3 Modern/Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing

Qualification will include

  • NVQ in Hairdressing at Level 4.
  • ESQ’s in Communication, Application of Number and Digital Literacy (Wales only)
  • Employability award.

No formal qualifications are required. However, you must have drive, enthusiasm and passion for the hair industry

  • NVQ in Hairdressing at Level 2.
  • ESQ’s in Communication, Application of Number and Digital Literacy (Wales only)
  • Employability award.

  • CH1 Style and finish hair
  • CH2 Set and dress hair
  • CH3 Cut hair using basis techniques
  • CH4 Colour and lighten hair
  • CHB9 Advise and consult with clients
  • CHB11 Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • CHB12 Develop and maintain effectiveness at work

This qualification is for advanced apprentice hairdressers with an appropriate skill set.

Qualification will include

  • NVQ in Hairdressing at Level 3.
  • ESQ’s in Communication, Application of Number and Digital Literacy (Wales only) Functional Skills Math’s and English (England Only)
  • Employability award.

  • CH9 Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
