University isn’t the only option. An apprenticeship is a fantastic alternative to help your child learn new skills, gain industry experience, earn a salary, and climb the career ladder.

Apprenticeships offer a direct route into employment. No need to worry about your child getting into debt, our apprenticeships are fully funded by Welsh Government. If your child is 16 years or over, they can take full advantage of this opportunity and train for free.

With a range of qualifications on offer, your child can progress their career from Level 1 to Level 3. In addition to hair, beauty and barbering courses, your child has the opportunity to access training in other areas such as, social media, digital marketing, customer service and leadership and management with Educ8 Training.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

There are many benefits to your child studying an apprenticeship with us. The main one being that your child will earn a salary. Unlike university, there is no cost to you or your child doing an apprenticeship. They will be paid whilst training on the job.

Your child can benefit from one to one, bespoke support from a trainer coach and choose from a range of optional units to tailor the qualification to their job role and areas of interest.

There is no limit to studying an apprenticeship. We encourage all our learners to progress through multiple levels and cross-train in other areas to increase their opportunities for promotions and future employment.

Apprenticeships in Wales FAQs for parents

What age do you have to be for an apprenticeship?

To do an apprenticeship, your child must be 16 years or older. There is no maximum age limit to doing an apprenticeship. They can be a school leaver, already employed with a business or looking to retrain.

What types of apprenticeship are available for my child?

ISA Training specialise in Hairdressing, Nails and Beauty and Barbering apprenticeships. Your child can also access courses in Social Media for Business, Digital Marketing, Customer Service and Leadership and Management through Educ8 Training Group.

How can I get my child started with an apprenticeship?

Your child needs to find an employer before they can start their apprenticeship with us. They can apply direct to one of our apprenticeship vacancies or if they have an employer in mind, they can ask the employer if they would be happy to take them on as an apprentice.

To apply for an apprenticeship, your child will need to apply direct to the employer, like they would for any other job. If their application is successful, they will be invited to attend an interview, for the employer to find out if they would be suitable for the role. If successful, we will contact the employer to agree the details of the apprenticeship to get them started.

Will my child have a job at the end of the apprenticeship?

Many of the businesses we work with go on to offer the apprentice a role at the end of their training. Once they have completed their training, they will be in a strong position to apply for other roles with a different employer if they wish.
Your child could also decide to study at a higher level with the same employer or find a new employer to broaden their experience.

Can my child do an apprenticeship if they’ve already started university?

If your child has started college or university and feel that it’s not for them, there is no reason why they can’t do an apprenticeship instead. So, if your child changes their mind, they can apply for an apprenticeship at any time to get them earning and learning.
